Oliver Owen To Receive Manitoba Aviation Council's 2019 Pioneer Of Flight Award

WINNIPEG, MANITOBA ? (Monday, March 26, 2019) The Manitoba Aviation Council is pleased to announce Mr. Oliver Owen of Amik Aviation has been selected to receive the 2019 Pioneer of Flight Award. 

The award is given annually to an individual who has made a significant contribution to Manitoba Aviation. Mr. Owen will be presented the award at the Manitoba Aviation Conference Banquet on April 10, 2019, at the Holiday Inn located at 1740 Ellice Avenue. The evening will celebrate Mr. Owen and other award winners for their various contributions to aviation in Manitoba. 

The Pioneer of Flight Award celebrates the careers of men and women whose drive and determination have had a significant impact on Manitoba Aviation. Mr. Owen is an independent Aboriginal entrepreneur who has played a pioneering role in our province's, and Canada's, aviation history. His novel use of the Cessna 208 Caravan Amphibian for regularly scheduled passenger service transfigured the access to transportation in numerous First Nations communities. Mr. Owen said he was honoured to receive the award, "I began my aviation career path 41 years ago and it means a lot to me to be recognized."

"Oliver is a strong, determined person with a clear vision and an inherent understanding of the needs of his area of operation and customers,? says James C. Campbell, a member of the Manitoba Aviation Council. His vision has positively influenced not only the communities he serves but has inspired others and had an impact on airport operations at St. Andrews Airport.

Its members include representatives from airports, air operators/ carriers, and those who service, maintain and repair aircraft.
